- No "Bird Identification Sheet" is included with the lesson. This must be compiled by the teacher or other resources (books, websites, etc) can be provided from which students can identify the bird beak that most resembles their tool. - Videos of birds feeding can be used for the "Invitation to Learn" instead of the carpenter tools. This may make the content more relevant to the biological concept. - Use discretion and consider safety in deciding which tools or items are used to model bird beaks. For example, mixed nuts are suggested and may pose an allergy risk. Stay clear of sharp objects, such as skewers. Substitute other tools, e.g. binder clips, plastic spoons. - Suggested items could be substituted with more cost-effective items that are not consumable, such as paperclips, rubber bands, dry beans of various sizes and shapes, and cotton balls. - Different environments may be modeled by using various surfaces such as different fabrics, sandpaper, sand, water, etc. - Project Seasons: Hands-On Activities for Discovering the Wonders of the World (Shelburne Farms Books) by Deborah Parrella ISBN-10: 0964216302 - The six "Additional Resources" links were not a part of this review.
