Access Point Extension Activities: MA.K.A.4.Pa.a could easily be satisfied with a simple extension activity. This would involve teachers finding a way to visually represent the simple patterns. Teachers would need to work extensively with students using the phrase "what comes next" in simple patterns and the terms "same" and "different" when comparing single objects and simple patterns. After extensive practice, have the students compare the patterns and indicate in their preferred mode of communication whether each pair of patterns is the "same" or "different". MA.K.A.4.Su.a could also be taught if more complex patterns were used in both the "what comes next" activity and the "same" or "different" activity. Please note that the visual representations of the patterns may have to be in color or even 3-D depending on the level of visual discrimination the student(s) are capable of.
