SC.K.E.5.2 Recognize the repeating pattern of day and night

We had a great science lesson covering SC.K.E.5.2- the repeating pattern of day and night. We covered this benchmark earlier this year so this was a great time to review. We started off by discussing what we can see during a day and night sky. Next we went over the reasons why we have day and night. I used the website (available via the benchmark page through CPALMS): http://www.classzone.com/books/earth_science/terc/content/visualizations/es0408/es0408page01.cfm?chapter_no=04 so the kids could visually see the Earth's yearly revolution around the sun. The kids really enjoyed the visual of how the earth moves around the sun. We took a flashlight and a globe and duplicated the rotation in the classroom. Finally each child filled out a Venn diagram of what they can see in a night sky and a day sky. We hung our art work on our bulletin board for the month of May.
