Submit your feedback after using a task

The Florida Department of Education partnered with the Florida Center for Research in Science, Mathematics, Engineering, and Technology (FCR-STEM) to develop a Mathematics Formative Assessment System (MFAS) for K-3 students. The results are embedded on CPALMS and include the following:

  • 230 formative assessment tasks and rubrics created for the mathematics K-3 benchmarks;
  • a formative assessment task and rubric builder tool that allows any user to create and submit additional tasks;
  • four professional development modules organized as two different training programs; and
  • a professional development system that provides a platform to create and deliver professional development programs and modules through CPALMS.

Things I can do with MFAS:

» Professional Development Path for Elementary Teachers of Mathematics
In this series of three modules, elementary mathematics teachers will be introduced to formative assessment, participate in cognitive complexity rating tasks, become familiar with number and operations benchmarks in the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards for mathematics, and learn how to access, utilize, and provide feedback on Florida’s K-3 Mathematics Formative Assessment System through CPALMS.

» Professional Development Path for Leaders of Elementary Teachers of Mathematics
(Principals, Assistant Principals, Math Coaches)

In this series of two modules, administrators and coaches working with elementary mathematics teachers will be introduced to formative assessment and learn how to access and utilize the MFAS, support teachers in implementing the system and provide feedback on Florida’s K-3 Mathematics Formative Assessment System through CPALMS; participate in cognitive complexity rating task, become familiar with number and operations benchmarks in the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards for mathematics. School leaders' support for teachers is critical as they implement MFAS and lesson study through the communities of instructional practice.

Finding Tasks - On Benchmark Pages

230 formative assessment tasks and rubrics are available on the respective mathematics K-3 benchmark pages.

These formative assessment tasks were created specifically for the benchmarks in the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards grades K-3. All the tasks went through the CPALMS rigorous review process before they were released on the website.

You can find these formative assessment tasks by clicking on the "Standards Information System" link on the top menu and then browsing to the particular benchmark. All the formative assessment tasks and other instructional resources can be found under the "Related Resources" section of the benchmark preview page. Click here for more information on how to find these resources.

Create New Tasks/Rubrics
In addition to the 230 tasks, a new formative assessment task and rubric builder tool has been added to the resource creation/submission section of CPALMS. This tool will guide you step-by-step in creating a formative assessment task and rubric. You can create your own formative assessment tasks and submit to share them with other educators. All submitted formative assessment tasks go through the CPALMS review process to provide you with feedback/suggestions from peer teachers and subject matter experts prior to sharing it with all other educators in Florida.
